Scientist/Senior Scientist, Discovery Bioconjugation Chemistry - Cambridge, MA
Orum Therapeutics is a private biotech company located in Daejeon, Korea and Cambridge, Massachusetts. We are developing a novel class of therapeutic antibodies to bring new medicines to patients with unmet medical needs. Orum leverages its unique cell-penetrating antibody platform to inhibit intracellular protein drug targets that are considered undruggable by small molecule or current antibody modalities. To help achieve our goal, we are now developing several small molecule chemistry platforms at our growing Cambridge, MA site to further drive therapeutic potential of this promising class of proteins. Our vision is a world where undruggable targets are no longer undruggable, so no patient suffers from diseases because antibodies cannot penetrate cells. We are looking for talented bioconjugation chemists to join our growing scientific team, driving drug discovery programs at various stages and supporting lead optimization efforts to identify potential drug candidates in oncology.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Efficiently deliver high-quality bioconjugates using established and newly developed techniques, and conduct purifications by a variety of methods (FPLC, TFF, IEX, affinity, HIC, SEC) on research scale (1-20 mgs) to drive SAR decision making.
Quantitatively analyze novel bioconjugates using methods such as UV/Vis, HPLC, CE-SDS, and mass-spectrometric analysis using both in-house equipment as well as coordinate more complex analyses through CROs.
Design and execute strategies to synthesize new small molecules and/or biomolecule conjugates.
Prepare written and oral reports, contribute to a shared laboratory environment, and work on multifunctional/multidisciplinary teams within a dynamic research organization.
Maintain high standards of laboratory safety, and comply with all Orum safety requirements.
MS/Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Organic Chemistry with at least 5 years of experience working in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology setting as a bioconjugation chemist having made significant contribution to the advancement of preclinical therapeutic candidates.
Candidate should have extensive hands-on experience with protein biochemistry, and be accomplished in related quantitative analytical methods for both small molecules and biologics.
Deep experience in bioconjugation using a variety of recombinant site-specific technologies and bioorthogonal chemistry is required; experience with microscale, high-throughput bioconjugate generation a plus.
Candidate must be able to work independently, learn and troubleshoot new techniques, and be willing to take a leading role in building out our Cambridge lab facility to fully support drug discovery efforts.
Experience working with stabilized and derivatized nucleic acids, including oligonucleotide analysis is a major plus.
Candidate must be comfortable working within a growing team of synthetic chemists, protein engineers, and biologists,and display genuine willingness to help build a strong science and culture at the growing Cambridge site.
Candidate must be a self-motivated team player, possess strong communication skills, and be able to prioritize and execute on multiple duties.
